About torrents downloads.

Just a small question, as far as I know torrents are not allowed in the downloads section, correct me if I´m wrong as I´m often that.

Is it ok to package the link in a zip file and share that zip file on an approved sharing site? As for example like this share where they just done a VirusTotal on the link file and not on the actual files?

Just a small question to update my knowledge.

If so, then the thing to forbid torrents are meaningless if you can create such workarounds.

I'm curious to see what the staff will say about this, but doesn't this also make VT links useless in such cases? The VT link in the OP's example is just a scan of the 13kB .torrent file, which doesn't mean anything. Inside there, someone could still put a malicious file or anything else.

the analysis would be done on the content of the magnet, like the uri, and not the actual content and files "inside" the torrent system, so I would say no.

I hope mods don't allow it...this doesn't work to prevent viruses

It appears there may be some confusion regarding the rules for Members Downloads. The team will discuss what our rules are in situations like this and make clarifications to the rules thread in the Downloads section if necessary.

I'll close this thread for now and post back in here when we have an update.

Sorry for the delay in responding, but we do have a clarification now. We don't allow downloads posted in the Members Downloads sections to just be a redirect to another source, but we can see that this isn't currently reflected in the rules thread for that section, so we will be updating that later and then handling any threads that violate that rule.
