What about building new sites and then 301 redirect them to your site. Maybe a way to get around the akismet ban?

Some good advice ITT. Here is another tidbit, sometimes if you fiddle with something too much you break it! Links take time to index... For all you know you might of stumbled upon something, but then broke it beofre you realize what you had. Stop fiddling with the site and go build some more. Revisit in 2 months or so.

Not all SEO methods are for everyone. Also do not keep all your eggs in one basket/site/niche.
It is very possible that there is some factor that makes the website you are currently working on very hard to rank. Maybe Google manually flagged the domain for some BS reason. Maybe the sites ranking in the top 5, although they seem not competitive, happened to all get major press and a couple links from sites Google thinks are really authoritative (even though those links aren't even showing up in ahrefs). In short, it is not enough to have 1 site because there are so many variables you have no control over that everything can be completely stacked up against you for one site without knowing about it.
Also if manually building lots of backlinks isn't working for you, try another direction. Instead work on really good content. I know from personal experience, that if you write very good content (such as the MicrositeMasters Penguin post) you start getting links from everybody without doing a thing. Or if you are really interested in cars, write a blog about them and start posting in big car forums.
There are lots of different angles you can take beyond just manually building blog comments and 2.0s. That is still a very viable blackhat strategy but that doesn't mean it is for everyone. Play to your strengths.

You're right, that is a huge waste of time. Manually building the same links again and again is also a waste of time.
You need to ask yourself how much is your time worth?
If you're ranking number 1, how much will you be making?
At 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, for the last 3 months, how much has your time been worth?
A short-term expense may well lead to long term gain. Why don't you buy a service on the forum? Outsource more work? Pay someone on fiverr to scrape a new list for you if you can't get anything else?

in order to continue to move up, you may need to closely analyse what the competitors above you are doing differently than you.
Your website is pretty new, and age is a big factor in ranking websites, consider that your website may just need to age some.
I see the backlinks, but where are the social signals?
facebook fan page, twitter account, pintrest, G+, etc
get those accounts going, get likes/follows/tweets/etc etc etc
Are you adding content to the site regularly as well?
you should be adding high quality new content at least once per week, preferably daily.

I was making most money with a Price Comparison Site until Panda showed up and killed my Income. After Panda I've made at least 30 new Sites...tried everything, Linkwheels, Pyramids, Web 2.0, FB, Twitter. But I just wasn't getting any good SE Traffic anymore. So 6 months ago I thought to myself, Fuck it, you never now what big G. does. Maybe you will make some good money again from SE Traffic, but only until google changes it's algo again. So I focused on something different. Made just one Site (Adult) and didn't do any SEO work. Now 6 months later the Site has 100.000 Pageviews and 10.000 Uniques a day.
Still not a real monemaker, because Adult traffic is different. But the Site continues to grow. The funny thing is, that the Site gets about 1000 - 2000 Visitors a day from Google and I've never done any SEO.

Pretty much all sites that are ranking still have obvious offsite seo campaigns...

i may be out of place in your case, but SEO is not only about backlinks, lots of other things, content, age, domain authority of your site and of the pages you post links to, on site optimization... I've been doing SEO for just over a year and I still feel i know almost nothing about it. maybe you need to focus on other things than just backlinks which are just 1 aspect of SEO

It is going really bad for me to. First I had a batch of 100 domains that I link spammed to from my private blog network of 100 blogs. So google send the penguin to my house and I got raped. From about 80-90 visits a day I got down to 20-30. Then after that I tried to do what the top dogs did. Links spammed lots of various blogs with markov text and a link in the text. Deep links to one single domain. Almost exactly as they did. I say almost. The difference was that the top dogs had only a single optimized domain main page while I use lots of deep pages with long tail keywords. That particular domain have not received one single search for over a week now. I know I had success before with scrape box about 2 years ago. I added deep links to my whole domain after sucking the web on blogs. Only one post per blog with the link in the name section and comments like "awesome blog man. Really like it. Keep up the good work". That time I got much more hits. This time when I did it 2-3 days ago.... Wait checking the stats in case something changed......Nope nothing changed. Still no searches from google. The domain I have runs openbh and I have like 10.000 keywords/pages in it. I have one idea what I need to change. Create a new domain with only a few pages or none and then expand it slowly.

Yes but there should be basic things that could be scaled up. I mean if you ask a search engine company to put your page in the first page on google for a certain keyword they will do it. So if one could automate that for a larger amount of pages you will get visitors and make money. If you got the basic thing covered you should be able to scale it up?

I don't blame you , SEO can be ever stressful. But its a continual learn process. Search engine algorithms change very often. So SEO is always going to be a learning/refining game. We all feel like this at times , but you need to just keep learning and find out what works.

If you've been doing SEO for three months, your biggest question has to be whether you enjoy it or not because that's not nearly enough time to learn SEO very well at all. I've been doing SEO for years and I still get frustrated all the time with it.
If you don't enjoy the frustration on some deeper level, then it's best if you get out now before you're sucked into it and dependent on it.
