About site re-classification

If you agree that G has a site classifier that classifies your site as a content site, affi site, ecom site, etc. And in each update, it puts more weight on different categories, please read on.

In such cases, anybody has experiences that translate the current site into a different category for re-classification? Like, converting a content site -> ecom site to gain more weight in the current algorithm.

I am about to do such work and expect to see some changes. I am posting here to see if anybody had such successful experiences to share so that I make fewer mistakes.

It is experimental and more like a safe white-hat approach. I want to keep the nature of a content site but to get classified into other categories as well to be less impacted by each algo updates.

How do you know I'm which category your site has been classified?

No way to know. But I do know Google has a history of classifying sites, as I remembered from some google official docs or patterns...

But you plan to do an effort to reclassify when you don't really know which is the original category?
 
I remember Clint Butler (?) saying that 301ing the domain to a wikipedia article on the topic for a while reclassifies the site. He mentioned it in a pretty offhand way, IIRC, so maybe ask him about it in his SEO this Week AMAs? Note: this was about site topicality, not site "type" (info/ecomm etc).

You can guess its category, it's pretty clear. Blog, Ecom, Affiliate......

I mean you cannot know for sure what the category is, like from some kind of Google official tools that you can check your site's category.

The rough category is pretty clear by simply looking at it.

thanks. I want to change the site type (info/comm), not the site topic.
Clint is great and I do believe his method could work but from what you describe I guess it is kinda grey.

I'm looking for an absolute white approach to do it, mostly like adding pages, removing something, etc.

I found Kyle Roof has shared stuff like adding physical addresses, phone numbers, etc, to gain EEAT. I wish I had watched that video.

Do you watch podcasts/videos on a frequent basis? I wish I can follow every video but it is too time-consuming...

I am thinking of getting some video AI summarizer script and running it on all SEO videos for summary to keep me updated.

I thought I knew enough but man, still got to learn, and to learn a lot.

so doing a category change by making the site look more like a legit business using NAP? That makes sense.

I wish I had more time to keep up with the podcasts and videos. I follow Clint's podcast and SEO fight club and check out their material once a week or so. Clint hasn't released anything in a while.
Regarding video summarization, I wrote a simple script that would transcribe a youtube video using OpenAI whisper, and then run the transcript through ChatGPT API to extract the key points. However, this wasn't as useful as expected because of the way people talk in podcasts, its pretty casual, disorganized, and they rant sometimes - - and in some cases my Whisper->ChatGPT API was omitting important points just because they had been mentioned in an offhand manner.

damn you are sharp and smart and you have already been doing so!

category change is as simple as transforming your site into a real business site with products, services, etc.....
But I don't want to do it that way because it is mostly destructive, what if google favors content sites in next updates.

I've got some neutral ideas of interchangeable cross-categorying but I don't know if it will work but I have high hopes.
 
This is normal. Because not everyday your site will be visited. Subscribers tend to change their choices. Reclassifying your site will help your strong points and weak points.
