What works for me is rich pins with kwd title and description. Then pin to as many different boards as possible.

A few days to a week. Depends on the competition. Most of the time, pins won't rank at all. But it's best to incorporate as many relevant keywords as possible. You see those keywords when you type on search. The clickable words beneath are the relevant ones. Use those.
 
The heading is about Pinterest but the post is about Instagram.
Let me know for which site you're asking the question.
 
Create boards of different sites with your own site by using pins extensions.
Then promote your board by using your followers. Post the link of your board to get views on your board.
 
I believe ranking on instagram involves keyword in username, name and bio with high activity on photos in my opinion. I used to rank top for a popular word.
 
I create boards on Pinterest by pinning my site an other sites related to my site.
Then, I promote that board for getting views to my site.
