About My Domain Name!

Hey first time poster here! Been looking around in the forums i love the site haha. Anyway on to my question.

Example: Say i have a website on funny pranks would it help me rank higher on goodle say i had a site called funnypranks.com? I would think it would drastically help my site drive traffic if it was something like that because not only if someone searched Funny Pranks exactly my domain name has both keywords.. plus the the page title and keywords inside the website itself.

Also my other question does it matter if its .com or .org or whatever. Back when the internet was coming out i believe it was to label websites from another .com for business purposes and .org for organization .info for information and ect. But nowadays i see people with tags that are not related to their ending so i didnt think it matters any advice?

question 1: yes it will help. some people spend $50,000+ on a good domain...

question 2: yes it does matter, but not by a huge amount. if you had a choice between a .com and .ws pick the .com everytime...

I dont think .info domains rank very well, do they?

And yes always go for .coms if your targeting the world, but say for example you just want to target the UK, get a .co.uk ect.

So .info does not rank well? my domain is available in .org and .us whats better? or should i alter the name to try to get the .com

.info is awful. Most people associate .info with junk websites (which is true 90% of the time).

Keywords in the domain name help with search rankings but not as much as people think. Extensions do not matter for rankings but they do affect click-thru.

The bigger benefit is that when people are searching for "funny pranks" they are more likely to click on a domain name that seems related - like funnypranks.com. If you can't get that domain come up with another name that is going to get people to click.

oh well i was reading somewhere on here that .info worked well for them. I mean no one types in .com in the search engine or anything so say it was pranks.nu or something shouldnt matter

In the US, most people can remember a website's name, but not the extension. For example, take 'iloveipods'. Now what would a normal everyday person remember as the extension? Of course, it is .com IMO, .coms (or the countries most common extension) is what people will type in.

Most people find what they are looking for by searching with keywords not by entering domain names in the browser. So having the right keywords in your domain name is the main thing. Of course, you still have to get your domain ranked high in google for people to find it.

yea but what i said before in the beginning wouldnt it help a bit if i had the keywords in my domain

.com, .net and .org rank the best if you can get the keyword your targeting in one of those extensions, it will make it a lot easier to rank for that keyword.
