Today I would like discuss the link expenses.
What is a fair price of a link? How it can be calculated?
It's important. Why? Because knowing this we'll make wiser decisions. This will help us make more informed decisions and win the organic game.
To answer this question we should understand two basic factors that directly influence on pricing.
Here's they are:
1. Link strength
2. Link safety
1. Link strength.
We all want strong links. The stronger the better. This is where greed affects our decisions.
Strong links come from strong sites (high DA,DR,TF, numerous high authority links, good amount of organic traffic (and other traffic), strong pages (pages with high PA, UR, numerous high authority links (both internal and external), good amount of organic traffic and are effectively placed (the strongest types of placement are sitewide links from header/footer, homepage links or in-text links).
2. Link safety
At last your site is ranking #1 for a popular money keyword. You're showeling the cash up now. And I bet you want it to last forever
This is why link safety is crucial. And this is where fear affects our decisions
Safe links should look as much natural as possible. There should never be any evidence of link being purchased (sponsored post disclosure and big amount of paid posts make it obvious site is a link ho). Site shouldn't be banned or filtered. Site shouldn't be hacked. You can find a plenty of bad site indicators here.
We should keep balance between to expensive and too risky links. This will help staying of the safe side while building relatively strong backlink profile.
How to find out that a link is overpriced?
That's easy. Just try building that link yourself and calculate how much time and money you've (or your VA) spent to build it.
Compare these costs with a link cost. If a link or package is sold 10-20% more expensive than a net cost - the price is fair.
But if link is 200% higher than a net cost - it's better to build it yourself.
That's what I think about link evaluation.
And what about you?
How do you evaluate paid link opportunities?
