these days .edu backlinks..do they still count more than normal backlinks? i mean it will boost my SERPs a little? what do you think!?

so..i should get some edu backlinks...even if some of the sites are PR 0 ?

No backlinks hurt unless they are from shit sites. Go for it on the .edu links. I would try signing guest books on those sites as well and use anchor text. Best of luck

I don't think Google has a preference for .edu links. They get high pagerank and rankings because of many backlinks and pages of quality content. They will boost rankings like other high PR links. It is difficult to get ******** links from .edu sites because many kill links or make them nofollow to prevent spam

no i am talking about do follow links on edu sites and even with anchor text. but from all i read about them..i will go and do them!

Not everyone can get .edu domain so that's why .edu carries more authority than others,
You can read interview with matt cutts about this

It's not that hard to get backlinks from .edu,
If you search carefully there are many universities that offer blogs creation for their students using their main domains, you can do blog comments there,
you can also search .edu forums.

I don't belive ANY backlinks hurt. It would be too east to f*** up competition. Any evidence?

Backlinks from link farms and spam sites do hurt. Google penalizes sites with too many bad links - it tries not to penalize sites for things others do - but it cannot always tell who is responsible
