Hello,

I hope I am on the right category to ask this question.
So basically I tried to find an answer on what is the best way to analyze the domains with the free ahrefs tool in our forums but I couldnt find an answer even with searching the forum via google and targeting the keywords "exact url" and "subdomains".
This is the tool I am talking about.( https://ahrefs.com/backlink-checker)

So my question is, when I check for the stats of the domain names should I pick Exact URL or Subdomains. There is a huge difference on the stats and I don't know where should I focus.

Thank you very much for your time guys.

When you choose exact URL you are checking only the backlinks that are pointing towards that URL and not the whole domain
If you want to check all the backlinks of the domain, choose Subdomains

Thanks for the quick answer, what would be more efficient for someone who is looking for expired domain names.
I mean, should I focus first on exact URL and then filter the results and look for the exact URL? Or maybe the opposite? Or maybe just pick subdomains and never look for the exact URL.
Asking because I save the numbers in google sheets and the list will get out of hand after some time because it already has 20,000 expired domains with stats.
Once again thank you very much for your answer.

You can pick either. Depends on what you're trying to understand. Exact URL is good for when you're analysing the backlinks to a specific page, perhaps to understand how and/why it's ranking.

While subdomain is for the entirety of the website.

By the way, you should know this AHREFS free tool has limit to how many links it would show you. It won't display all the backlinks. But it's still a good start.

Thanks for the tips.

To be more clear,
I scraped the web and I got around 100,000 available domains names from my country.(Got 300k but 100k is available for purchase.)
I've made a program using gpt and it is checking all the domain names one by one with the free tool, and passes the domain stats on a google sheet.
So, without a lot of work I'll have their stats using the free tool and then I can filter them and check them manually.
Imagine that I checked 10,000 domains and 9,000 have 0 DR 1-2 Backlinks 1-2 RD.
This is why I asked the question, because for now I am looking for "bulk" data, and I was wondering which of the two options would give a better start.
Sorry if I got out of discussion but I am trying to explain my thoughts.

Best regards,
Khaico.
