Ability To close OLD|Unwanted Threads :D

Sirs,

Please give some members some ability to close really-old or really-unwanted or needlessly-re-re-rebumped old threads, and help our Mods to concentrate on other more important issues. May be, some of the Jr. VIP ~ Executive VIP members will volunteer for this "capability" quite willingly imho

It is seen that long time dead threads are needlessly or unknowingly bumped by a member (usually an unaware newbie), and even after posted (and many different times after that! ) that an old thread is needlessly bumped, some members blindly post a few 1000 more comments on that poor thread which was dead a few decades back! Let's have a system to stop it -- either by allowing some selected members to close the thread, or something better in its place so that the BHW Mods are spared this particular headache at least....

Well, I've got some good news, members already have the ability to close a thread.

Their own thread they can close. Being a Jr VIP, they can close their own threads any time they want. I think same is the case for the higher level members. But I am talking of ability of closing another member's long-dead thread.

For example, watch this long-dead thread that has being rejuvenated yesterday.

Many members have posted after it was bumped needlessly after about 3 years gap, and many have told them that the thread is very old and was dead ages ago. Watch closely over the next 15 days, the thread will already have a thousand more comments, opinions, advices, warnings, new stories, etc.... even after many members time and again telling everyone there that the thread is needlessly re-re-rebumped! . No one really hears to anyone out there!

So what I mean is, that thread doesn't belong to either of us, but may be we should be able to close the thread and stop the rebumpings from going overboard. Ability to close third-party created threads.

totally agree with this idea.
ok here i just remember jr vip rep+ circles in the past so i say no for jr vip but yes for executive.
i meant i do not much trust with jr vip.

Not a bad idea, just gotta have a set timeframe for when a thread is declared "old". But for now, just report and we'll close, doesn't take too long for us!

I think a better idea re old threads getting bumped is to give the user a warning on their screen that they are about to bump an old thread - closing them seems a bit extreme to me - especially them being closed by anyone other than the OP.

Shouldnt be too hard to check against the database when someone hits reply button and warn them if the last post is "old".

It might even give a few problems to bots that sometimes seem to bump stuff.
