Hi,
So a few years ago I ditched a domain and closed the website. The website contains my company info.
And then I found out someone picked up the domain and revived THE EXACT CONTENT.
With all my company info on the site, but I am not the site owner anymore!

I'm afraid someone will use it for scam.
What can I do?

Was the company in name only? What I mean is, do you have an EIN or LLC attached to this company name?

Talk to the new owner before deciding on your legal options. These things get sorted on mail often.

Yes, the company is registered and still running.
I have other sites so I didn't think someone will take over the domain, it doesn't have good DA or something.

I'm surprised to see the site with all the same content and design - how they did that?
I designed it myself and updated all the content, but I deleted the whole database after the domain expired.

Only good thing is that I didn't reveal full address and contact number; but there are names of staff.

Send a cease and desist letter to domain registrar, hosting company, and him (via whois of the domain). Find an example online, and do it - usually is good enough.

I was going to say this. This is most likely your first course of action. Does your business name have a DBA attached to it? A trademark?

Generally, this should be pretty cut & dry as they're infringing on your business.

Thanks, will do that!

Worst case, after you email and request they remove your content (and they do not)- or if the registrant does not respond to you- you can file a UDRP if you meet the WIPO requirements and prove it messes with current customer confusion of your business so you should recover the domain name. There are UDRP lawyers that file this with WIPO daily.

Then you do a redirect to the commonly used site.

I won't recommend a redirect in this case, because you don't know what the current owner has done to the website. OP, should leave it as dormant or a basic page with his company info.

Yea, you are correct didn't think about that and removed that in original response, thanks.

Try to talk with their owner, if you cannot find a solution, hire an experienced lawyer
