The best free host I've used was
Freehostia. They have a 1-click install for Wordpress and the server speed is pretty good for a free web host.
However, they do have their flaws:
- Expect your website to only have about 95% uptime (that's probably being generous).
- I've had a couple of experiences where they move my site without letting me know, and I lose any updates I made to the site an hour before the migration.
- You can't use private emails without upgrading to their paid hosting. SMTP is disabled.
- You also can't use antispam or contact forms for the reason above.
- A new Wordpress website should load in roughly 1.5 seconds on their servers. This isn't great, but the hosting is free, so you can't complain.
Despite their flaws, I really like them for small websites and clients who want to cut down costs as much as possible (
Awardspace is another free host, although I never got around to using them.

Hypothetically, if you were to go with Freehostia, they would send you your nameservers in an email. You can also view these nameservers on your web hosting dashboard.
Once you point the nameservers to your web host, wait 24 hours for the DNS to propagate. In case you're wondering what that means, it means that your website won't necessarily be "the same" around the world until the DNS is finished propagating (e.g., you'll see your Wordpress site, although someone in Russia may see your parked domain page).
