Hi, I am from India and i have a british SEO client. THe client ordered SEO services. I did inform the client that generally it takes 6 months for a website to rank on page one. He wanted it in 3 months, we said we will do our best howver I never guaranteed him. Now after 2 months he is threatning to sue me. :(

Now he is leaving bad reviews on my twitter facebook, and he said he will Hire a British Solicitor and sue me. :(

We spent long time on the project and one of the many keyword moved to position 22 from nowhere. Further there are many onpage issues on his crappy prestashop store that we cant fix as website is buggy and making any changes make the site go fubar.

Now, I am in India and he is british. What options do I have? I can't afford a lawyer. :( I said maximum I can refund him half a mont for this month.

Any help woud be appreciated.

Go public with your chats on how he agreed to the terms and how he's being unfair to you.

In fact if he keeps demoting you YOU can sue him....so warn him about that.

Sounds like a typical scruff who wants for nothing. Just tell him to fuck off and go to a solicitors. I can guarantee you, one he will not, and even if he did, fuck all would come of it.

I would not refund him anything, that is all this is about.

First let us know, How much you charged from him?
If you have charged $xx,xxx Then it will be a problem. If it is small amount leave it.
he paid via paypal?

I am not sure for how much you sold your service for. But if you had charged the usual 500-1k$ a month & say he paid you max 2k$. I don't think he would take any legal action against you. Because there are a lot of reasons :

1. The legal fees in UK are a big joke and I doubt it will be feasible for him assuming he spent 2k$
2. I don't think it is so easy to sue an indian from UK

But sad part is you have done your job, provided the service & you should rightfully keep the amount you spent for delivering links & refund the rest. I know you are not even supposed to refund anything but my friend you should have never agreed to this deal or said " we will do our best to rank in 3 months". Make this a point if you want to grow as a big agency then be crystal clear with your clients regarding the expectations upfront. Never say lets do for 2 months and see where we go. We will try our best etc. I personally straight away deny such clients who have unrealistic expectations. Hope this helps.

Always two sides to a story, he may feel you never delivered on anything, you feel you worked hard, its what happens when communication is blinded by two different objectives and neither is fully explaining because both want to believe the objectives will be met. However 22 in 3 months is not good but no idea on site etc so who knows.

I am in UK so I doubt he will get a solicitor as the cost is high and very difficult to action from UK to India, he will spend a lot of time and effort getting nowhere in my view. If you have made an other tell him take it or leave it and move on. Bad reviews are not good but you can always post back.

Did you signed any NDA or working contract with the client If the answer is No , you don't have to worry explain him all what you have done and in bold where you have mentioned that it will take at least 6 months.

Ask him to have patience and don't behave like a child.

And yes regarding negative reviews sadly we cannot control it. Best thing is make a nice detailed explanation with proofs & screen shots & counter the review wherever he posted neg reviews by keeping it professional.

Handling people right is your key to success in this case.
Dont start arguing with him.
Make him say "yes,yes".
Say that he is right and than explain him the situation.
Try to look through his eyes in this case, think about how you would react, because after all, you accepted the order and you have known that it is not achievable in three months. Apologize.
When he doesnt stop, say that you are sorry , that you have given the best you could do, but it is not easy at all, because of this and that on his site.

Dont ever tell him fuck off or anything like that like the posters above me. It will not bring you anywhere. Instead, convince him that he can trust you and your work.

He will sue you if you really havent delivered what you promised. Some people go to great lenghts because of disappointment and anger. He won't care abouth the costs of suing you brcause of the stubborness. So you either deliver what you promised to him or refund him.

PS. If he sues you, many other problems will arise with your own country( like tax evasion)

Don't be paranoid. Wait for the anger to calm, there are people like that who do not think of what is around them and just bursts. He would listen after he calms himself

Are you the client or do you just have general brain injuries ?

I would do this for sure.

Do you have a written contract that both parties signed? If not, he can't do jack shit.
