A starting point?

Start with Fiverr, it will get you going, then when you make some cash from that, invest in a domain and hosting and put some good content on it, make sure it is all authentic content, not spinned and copied. This of course will gain you more organic traffic. Don't put adsense or cpa on it until you are seeing close to 100-300 uniques visitors a day. Make sure to optimize your website so users want to stay on it longer, and maybe click an ad!

or do it the cheap way

lol. Or if you have any real skills in life, you can always create an ebook teaching people how to do something. Just do your keyword research first and find yourself a nice niche with lots of searches and lots of long-tail keywords. The fastest way to start making money with a site is by ranking for tons of tiny long tails.

Oh, also it's easy to make money selling stuff on Amazon if you want to create a seller account. Even ebooks!

And I'd prefer something where I learn something. That would be nice.

Trust me, no matter what route you take you will learn plenty. I never realized how much went into making a site and monetizing it until recently and i still have a lot left to learn. The first thing that you need to do is figure out what niche you are going to be tapping in to. There are many great posts on this site related to that and all you need to do is a little bit of research. I may not be able to help you out a whole lot with that but one thing I can tell you for sure is that you have a difficult road ahead of you and there will be plenty of people trying to f**k you over but your success will come down to perseverance, hard work, and a f**k you too attitude. Good luck.

What's a good way to start monetizing a site once it's got good traffic for a beginner. Advice much appreciated also thanks b

Adsense is where it all started for me, and if you can think of any good digital products / services to sell then that would also be good. Not wanting a paypal account is a little closed minded in my opinion. I can't even think of how many thousands of dollars I would lose without a paypal account.

Paypal don't like me for blackhat eBay methods I used as a noob.
