a simple hosting ( multiple hosting ) question !

Hey everyone , i'm thinking about hosting with OVH ( i'm thinking for a package for multiple websites ), their local offer give you this :
250 Disk space
100 emails (5gb)
4 data bases ( whata is this ? )
that say that they offer multiple website hosting for this package !

the question is : should i ask them if those mulltiple websites are addons to the main website hosted , also does that matter , and should the websites have different IPs for the offer to be worth it !

i will really appreacite some help with this matter !

Hi Voyka,

250 GB is more than enough space for many average websites. Popular CMS like wordpress or custom scripts takes very low space so you are good for it.

most PHP/MySQL based websites require a database to work with. Its recommended to use a separate database with each website. So if you have 4 database you can use 4 wordpress sites with them. Its possible to use one database for multiple sites by using a prefix but its more complicated and you can face issues in future when exporting/importing sites.

Ask them if they have any database size limit. Thats the most important thing.

In most cases, unique IP for each site is not a must. But if its an important money site that you are ranking, a unique ip do have some seo value.

There should also be a limitation on how big your db can be. You will face a lot of problems later on if your site's db gets big. 4 database means that you can have up to 4 separate databases for hosting different sites. My suggestion would be to go for VPSs instead. OVH also offers affordable VPS plans , so check that out. For VPSs, you could create unlimited dbs and addon domains.

Agreed with Gogol. While VPS offers more freedom its also not easy to setup and manage general users. You will need some experience or hire someone to do the job for you. Most web hosts will suspend your hosting if the database becomes too big or you start spending too much bandwidth.

i'm just thinking about using it temporary of course VPS is better

Hey malcom , i'm thinking about using this offer to host i few websites , maybe for some regular websites , or a PBN , thats it !

4 DB doesnt mean you will get 4 IP. Most webhosts offer one shared ip for all websites one account can host. They sell additional IP on request. For PBN, its highly recommended to use different webhosts for each domain, Its safer that way.

Basically in cPanel, if you want to add more than one domain they will be added as addon domain. But thats fine .. its not a problem, thats how cPanel works.

For PBN, if you use same webhost for your PBN nodes, and even if you use different ip addresses for each of them, Google can still link them together because Google can simply resolve the IP and see that they are from the same webhost. They are few ways to prevent this .. by using some kind of IP cloaking, but why go through all that hassle? There are plenty of cheap webhostings starting from 1$ per month.

Agreed, but there's a huge number of documentation available to do that. I mean it, anybody can learn how to setup and manage a webserver. This skill will help in the long run.

As for example, digital ocean has easy guides on how to setup LAMP on a ubuntu machine in 30 minutes. Just copy paste one command after another and you will set your server up fast!

Hosnerstly i have no idea what VPS is , it it the way to go if you have a few big websites ,
Also if you strat hosting few websites on OVH shared multiple hosting , is it easy to move them afterwards to a VPS ( from OVH , or an other hosting service ) ?

It is pretty much easy to upgrade on a existing host and to move from one host to another also most of the hosts provide a free migration.

VPS (Virtual Private Server) is somewhat like shared hosting in the sense that you are sharing space from a big physical machine like shared hosting, but a lot more powerful.
Why?
As for Shared hosting, you are sharing the same environment with 100s of other users ( e.g. RAM, CPU, your server environment etc). So, if a user over there has a big website, it will eat up your RAM and CPU (though they said you got X mb of RAM, etc).

VPS, on the other hand is small virtual operating system instances within the same physical machine. It guarantees (generally) you CPU and RAM amount. With that, you have a lot more power when it comes to setting up environments ( like, for example.. you want to use nginx server instead of apache server, you can easily do it yourself). They basically give you the root access to your virtual instance.

Get it now?

As for transfer, as far I remember ( I don't used managed hosting anymore, it's bullshit lol) Cpanel had a migration feature but can't remember. You will need some experience for migrating to a server if you have to do it via SSH, but that's definitely something you can learn easily.

Unmanaged VPS/Dedicated plans only. That gives me total freedom to do anything I like. On the other hand, you will need to have good knowledge of Linux to be able to do it (but you can always copy paste it lol).
I buy plans mostly from Digital Ocean, Google and Amazon.

I am not into that sort of business. I would generally avoid hosting PBNs in one server. That's like putting all of your eggs in one basket.
