Hello dear marketers, its time to give back!

After reading some threads about Google penalties I decided to make a simple guide based on my 8 years of SEO experience. Of course, there is no 100% truth when it comes to SEO. This information is based of what has worked for me over the years :)

If you are building links then you might want to follow these simple steps:

Avoid building links to your homepage only!

If you go through some search results you see that most of them are internal pages not root domains. EMD era is over and Google favors pages over root domains. Building links to homepage usually doesn't look natural (of course there's exceptions). If you're still trying to rank a homepage, you should build backlinks to your internal pages and build internal links pointing to your homepage or other relevant pages. I personally never try to rank root domains. Pages intent to rank faster and they are more receptive to unnatural links.

    Always drip-fed

This is obvious to most marketers but there are still lots of people who build links as fast as possible. Google AI can detect unnatural links patters easier than ever before. Build links slowly!

    Diversify your anchors

If you want to know how a natural anchor text look like then go ahead and read some news articles. Anchor text doesn't have to be a simple word or phrase. You can use short sentences and questions. Use LSI keywords and synonyms. Also, I still don't understand why lots of marketers using generic works such as click here or read more etc. This doesn't look natural and even Google's official SEO guide don't recommend that. Also, its always a good practice to point to relevant authority pages as well.

Use unique titles if you're building contextual links

This is pretty important! If you're publishing articles, make sure they have unique and descriptive titles. Don't do keyword stuffing in titles!

Balance your link profile with no-follow links

Every natural link profile has lots of no-follow links. When i'm using PBN links I always run a press release campaign to get some no-follow authority links from news sites and magazines.

Try to build links that get you traffic

The most powerful is the link that people click through. Having these links will give a signal that your website is important. Answer questions on forums, Q/A platforms, blog comments or publish some good guest posts that people would read.

If you're using questionable links to rank your site such as PBN's or SAPE then the most important thing to focus on is the balance between Blackhat and Whitehat. By following these simple steps, you'll not get penalized, never!

    Best,
    Rait
