Hey everyone. So everyone knows and tells around here that it is important to build backlinks on a natural way. Some people advise not to build 100 backlinks on a single day for example. We also know that it's important to get backlinks from high value domains to create some impact within the SERP.

So why shouldn't I do the opposite? Let's say I create more than 100 backlinks for my competitor in the serp on shady domains with terrible and repeatable anchor text.

Wouldn't that get them on Google's radar and downgrade them in the serp? Or is this not how things work?

Please let me know what you think haha.

edit: typo in the title

The reality is that we don't know how Google considers it. Google can punish 1 website for it, and ignore it for another website, and give a boost to another website.

Even if you see case studies of people hurting competitor websites, it doesn't mean that it is how Google will work today, or tomorrow, or for your competition.

But, for your interest, @BassTrackerBoats is going to be doing a new study with this and will share the results with the forum when it is done.

It depends but really, at best, that would trigger a manual review. Those bad backlinks could be disavowed.
