A random but harmful domain is redirected to my website

Hi! I was checking my backlinks to spot anything new and see what others are doing and found a harmful domain 301 redirected to my website and it's a bad SEO attack. Why?

1. Domain is spammy
2. Viagra and porn links
3. More than 5k spammy links were created in the last month.

What have I tried?

1. Contacted my hosting, "nothing they can do since domain is not hosted there"
2. Contacted the harmful domain registar several times, leave complains, and nothing.
3. Disavowed the domain in GSC disavow tool.

Nothing changed, more links are being pointed to that domain every day and redirected to mine. Traffic just started to go down recently, just when it was recovering from the big G core updates.

What else can I try to get rid of this issue? Any ideas?

Should I disavow the +5k links? I mean, they are pointing to that domain, not to my domain directly.

Nowadays, many people resort to spamming their competitor's site when they are unable to outrank them.
 
You need to wait for some time and it's not possible to disavow the 5k links pointing to the spam domain. I think you need access to the spam domain. You can focus on building quality links from legit websites and keep your site updated with high quality articles.
 
Just disavow that shit....domain:spamdomain.com

Only one spammy domain won't do much damage.
 
You can also try to report this spam directly to Google and strengthen your domain by focusing on quality signals
 
Quick update:

As expected, many people agree that I can't disavow all the spammy links pointing to the redirected domain since they are not directly pointing to my site. So, I just disavowed the redirected domain as well as (several backlinks that are pointing to the redirected domain, just to test)

Almost 3 months have passed since I first disavowed, and there's still no change, but it's still too soon I guess. Traffic is still dropping a bit.

There's still no reply from the registrar, even after SEVERAL abuse complaints.

What I have done?
  • I recently did a couple of SPAM reports in Google Search Console. Who knows? Maybe it works (Thanks @RankWithShelly for pointing it out)
  • More abuse complaints
  • Started to focus on building backlinks, quality ones.
There are other "solutions" like using the ngx_http_referer_module module of nginx to make any visits that the redirected domain gets to face a 403 or 404.

I am not sure what you are expecting, but disavowing will not get rid of the redirections. The redirection or forwards are done on a domain and registrar that you or Google have no control over.

By disavowing the links coming from that domain, Google will know that it is not what you want and that it is not your doing either, even when they keep sending unwanted traffic. So, if you disavowed the links, rest assured that it will not (should not I must say) harm your site.
 
It is certainly your competitor doing this. Google will release an update soon for disabling the impact of this new kind of attack .
