I have been asked a few times about how to set up a VPS as a SOCKS proxy with Putty so slapped this guide together this evening.

I apologise for the layout, I did it in word and then saved as webpage as I coudn't be assed to do it from scratch :)

Anyway, its a step through how to use a VPS and Putty to set up a tunnel.

Code:

May be useful to someone!!

VERY useful.... how would one go about using this same system for automation on multiple computers? (NOTE- Automation- meaning, click a button and you are now using computer 3's ip address, seamlessy)

Are there programs written on top of putty to get this done? If I were to create a program, which language would it have to be in.

Thx in advance!

hey fatboy how could i make it so i can make proxies i can use like exclusive proxies i mean with the server number and port

Same thing is posted here http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/proxies/56333-ssh-tunneling-100-effective.html

Any1 has a guide to turn a VPS into a password protected proxy server with squid? the one I followed (which is on this board) doesn't seem to explain the password protection thingy and I ended up with proxies that don't really work.... any ideas?

which one did you follow?

wow... I setup everything exactly right, but its saying proxy server refused connection!

Is this a problem with my VPS service?

hey there I followed this tut:

http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/proxies/139901-tutorial-setting-squid-your-vps-proxy.html

I don't get the problem with the connection being refused on my VPS, I think my problem is rather on the configuration side of SQUID..... are u tunneling? If u are then obviously I am out of line here lol....

I haven't tried tunneling but instead I am trying to set up a proxy server with squid..... If it I can't get it to work I might give tunneling a go....

ahh that one is quite good.... however instead of 3proxy I am using SQUID....I was using this thread:

http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/proxies/139901-tutorial-setting-squid-your-vps-proxy.html

To be honest the thread u quoted seems a lot easier and it even has a video agrr I should have gone that way... anywho....Just figured out what was wrong with my set up... when I used the port to access my VPS.. I entered the port my VPS company had provided... the thing is... I think squid has a default port 3128 or so if I remember correctly.... and once I replaced that port on foxyproxy I was able to browse through my high anon VPS proxy :) YAY!!!

Now there are 2 things I need to figure out....

1. I need to know if the rDNS needs to be changed
2. Instead of ACL'ing all the allowed IPs I'll use password authentication through NCSA....

In the end that outta give me a setup similar to what some providers use, in other words, I'll have an IP/port, a username and a pass... So I believe I am 60% there :)
