Say I have a niche like ipod touch and wanted to buy a .com TLD.

So, if ipodtouch.com is not available how good will ipod-touch.com be?

PS: For all those wanting to let me know the copyright infringement on this domain name, please know this is just an example.

I would always stick with a .com and maximum two keywords unless of course a three word keyword is just too good. I really wouldn't bother with a hyphen.

Hyphens work well for me on several domains. ie. an exact keyword phrase that is 3 words with 2 hyphens has been bringing me in adsense revenue for years with hardly any backlinks. All of the search engines like the exact match in the domain name.

In my case hyphens have worked great although I'd always take the non-hyphenated version if given a choice.
