A question for the SEO gurus

This is a general question, but would appreciate your thoughts about it please.

If the domain "exampel.com" have 1000 referred domains as backlinks, with medium quality trust flow. And you are competing with the subpage of that domain, for instance exampel.com/anotherexample. Now exampel.com/anotherexample have only 50 backlinks from different domains with a medium quality trust flow. And you want to compete with the subpage of this competitor, do you build 50+ backlinks from different domains, or do you need to build more?

i am not a guru, but i can tell you noone can give you exact answer on that. There are too many factors besides the links numbers, so you might need just 1 backlink and outrank it, and you might need 5000 to outrank it.. the higher quality backlinks you get the less you will probably need to outrank it

You should be less concerned with backlink quantity and more with quality. Especially with recent algorithm changes.

That's why I wrote "different domains with a medium quality trust flow"...

@OP i know what you mean.. i manually analyze niches before i go into them and i generally don't get it wrong. If the domain "example.com" only has 1000 links to its homepage, and 50 links to its example.com/anotherexample page, you should be good to go..

But if it has 1 million links to its homepage and only 50 links to the page you are trying to compete with obviously it's gonna be more difficult.

But then again, it's more complicated than that... a site could have a million links pointing to it, and have little link juice flowing to the page you are trying to outrank.. while a site with 1000 links to its homepage and a link in its footer to the page you want to outrank on every page on its site could be equally if not more difficult to beat.

Other factors would include is knowing how good at seo you are, and what type links you can access to compete with it. All in all though, what i have found is that with a properly optimized site (homepage) around the subject, and enough quality backlinks, it's more than possible to knock an example.com/anotherexample page off its spot... as for knocking a super high domain authority example.com homepage url off top spot.. well that's a different story..
