A question for many, what do you consider to be the best e-commerce platform?

I'm looking to start a website, and I'm curious as to what would be the best e-commerce? Wordpress/HTML/etc... and why is that? I feel like Wordpress is an overall cheaper, but effective way to display a website, while still maintaining to have an extremely user-friendly backend.

I suppose it might depend in regards to what I plan to do with it. Essentially like Fiverr (yes, there's a WP plugin), where public can easily pay for a service, and the money is held for a period of time.

Anyways, any insight is much appreciated.

My terminology might be incorrect, please correct if so!

This has been gone over countless times. Do a search.

There are addons for wordpress, but it is not an ecommerce solution. Look at magento, opencart, or paid software like volusion or bigcommerce.
