A question about redirects..

Ok, client has a site for an existing store that it has just purchased. They are re-branding the new store to fit in-line with their other stores. some of the product that the recently purchased has, are coming over to the existing stores and website. there are decent searches for the product name and old store name online as it is.


so my question is this:
Do I list all the products on the website then redirect all the url's from the old website to the same product eg: www. newlypurchasedstore.com/product name redirects to www. existingstore.com/productname with a 5 second wait where I can show with an image what is going on eg: - old store is now new store and that's where you are going to buy this product.

OR

just redirect the domain to the domain with a 5sec wait (including the info image)
What do you think and you think that either way would have a benifit or not on the SEO of the site..

and LASTLY..... how?

301 the entire url list to its corresponding listing on the new site, or just homepage to homepage?

Use a 301 redirect on a page by page basis ie. redirect each url on the old domain to the corresponding url on the new domain. Assuming the filenames are the same, it's an easy job with .htaccess or php.

Using a 301 is the only way to retain the link value of your old urls. Don't do a delayed javascript redirect or meta refresh - just do a straight 301 to the new url. Put a message like "Welcome to our new store" on the new page instead if you want to tell the surfers what's going on.
