A question about link bait, back links & SERP's

I have a question about link bait, and how it relates to the rankings of other pages on a site...

I have an idea for link bait, but it is not at all related to my niche. If I was to put this bait out there, and if lots of back links were naturally created that point back to the link bait, could I expect the rankings of the other pages on my site to improve?

Only if you have links on the link bait page to your other pages.
