A Question About Keyword Research

Hi BHW,

I'm trying to do some keyword research using Google free kw tool. So I picked a couple of kws that has over 5000 searches per month. I then Google them to see how much competition there is.

Results without quotes: 250,000
Results with quotes: 2,400,000

Does this make any sense at all? I thought the results without quotes are supposed to be less than the one without quotes right?

How does this happen?

strange but sometimes google tells a little white lie, try going through the pages as far as you can go with the one with quotes and you night find its more like 24000 or 2400 dont know why this happens but it does. Although I could be wrong, if so put me in my place lol

It's actually quite logical if you think about it: Some of the pages with the term on it aren't ranking for that term because of its competitiveness while other pages without the term are ranking solely on backlinks.

One way to get a better picture of your competition is to set your results per page to
100, and clicking on the last page link. Most of the time you'll get a completely different
result, as this search removes "similar results".
