So, I started my website a month and a half ago or so targeted for a specific keyword. I wrote a bunch of good unique content for the website and I have been slowly adding it to the website. While doing this I was noticing my rank go up, very slowly but it was progress and so I was happy. Now, however, I have still been building links and adding content but it's falling and I don't know why. a month ago I was up to 170 (terrible and I don't even know why it was so bad) and now I've fallen down to ~250. Any ideas or help?

Obviously your link building methods aren't working correctly if your ranking quickly decreased after you started to build some back links, by any chance have you been using the commen link wheels method to attempt to rank higher in the SERPs?

Your website is new. You need more time to have better conclusions. This kind of dacing is natural.

Obviously not. I have not been using common linkwheels, I've been mostly just trying to single link and I've also done some blog commenting and things like that. I was planning on building more properties to link to my website but I'm kind of worried now because I've been falling in the serps instead of rising.

Perhaps your niche is too competitive to expect results so quickly.

is your site a blog? if your using wordpress then edit the URL to just "post name" do not include date and category. of course new blogs will rank higher because blogs are fresh topics but they will fall dramatically from serps.

That's the thing, the competition is garbage. here is the #2 ranking page for the search term.

2 2 100 167 0 N N N N Y N 5

(that's market samurai AKA Domain age/PR/BL to page/ BL to domain/ EDU BL/DMZ/YAH/Title/url/desc/head/cache age

and my site

- 0 46 54 0 N N Y Y Y Y 3

and I'm ranked ~250.

I am using wordpress just because it is easier, should I not? I have the post URLs Category/post name but don't include dates or anything like that. In fact, I don't even include dates on the posts. I could change it from wordpress but I figured wordpress would work fine since it makes it MUCH easier for me to build the site and didn't think it would have a serious negative impact on my SERPS

Sometimes, it takes time for a new site to gain good ranking and stay there. As long as you have good content and chose the right keyword, just keep building quality backlinks, and sooner or later you will see your site rising in rank.

ROFL. So, I'm climbing in both Yahoo and bing but falling like a rock in google. Steady declines in google and I'm steadily climbing in yahoo and just popped up as #9 in bing because bing finally indexed my website.

So, I just thought I'd update this and I'm still so confused. I'm ranked between 3-4 on bing for my primary keyword, and between 10-11 for 3 other keywords and all of these keywords are ranking in the 200's-400's in google. I've been building backlinks, I have relevant quality content which is SEO'd, I don't get it.

I noticed something with bing and yahoo. If my keyword is repeated to much G will not give me a good rank for it. but yahoo and bing don't seem to mind. Maybe you over spammed your key word?

Hmmm, I don't think so, it seems nicely sprinkled and only where it fits and flows properly.

Having patience is key with seo. Results will come just never give up.

Right.:D I just don't get why things are working so swimmingly for two search engines and abysmally for a third.:( And it happens to be the big G which it is going poorly, lol. Could I really expect anything else though? It's just frustrating because it's my first, real, SEO project.

The mighty G as made some serious changes lately which are affecting some people more than others. I think they are making it a bit more difficult to use just simple strategies to manipulate the serps. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed a big lean towards personal search. Where your search results are tailored based on your search history and pattern.?

G just love to mess with us... they get paid well for it...the dance , as some one said is my guess. but there are some still un talked about sneaky changes that are in the works with G so flow if we can
