Hey guys

I got client who runs an ecom store on WIX. He has a product page that I'm currently building backlinks to.

He recently mentioned that he is planning to delete the page and re-create another similar page with the same URL due to some errors he has been getting.

I understand that I can use canonicals for duplicate URLs but will these to some extent affect the quality of the SEO as opposed to just having a single unique URL?

canonical url is used for avoiding duplicate content issue.

If you are creating new page with same url, then you do not need canonical url.

It is like you are updating page with new content.

So there should not be any issue.

Well from expertise point i will tell what is the solution. Now, supposedly he got filtering sidebar in shop page. Like filter by , color, size, rating, etc. Each of these filters add parameter in the url and usually looks like this ?order=price, etc. Add those params. in Google Gsc and tell Google these affects page content and let Googbot decide. This the configuration for Url params, to avoide this issues.

Thanks for the reply.

But will the power of the backlinks that I've built for the old page be carried forward to the new one if I delete the old URL

You will not lose any power if you use the same URL again. If you delete the URL deleted permanently then you will have some issues like losing backlink power facing 404 error. But your case is not like that, it seems to be an update of the page. So don't worry if you start to use the same URL again.

You are not going to loose backlinks power if you keep url same.
