A noob's first journey

Finally, a new BHW member today who has posted something intelligent and who has actually taken the time to read and digest the wealth of information here.

I wish you well on your journey, your first steps have been the right ones and hopefully you will do well.

I'd be interested in following your thread throughout the process of achieving your goal. Hope you'd make this as simple as you possibly can. Good luck, man!

Day 2 - 23rd July
Signed up to Google Analytics.
Created website. It's kind of there for a starting point but needs some tidying.
UV - 13. I don't know where they came from. I guess they're mostly bots?

Tomorrow I need to sign up to some social media accounts and attempt to start creating some back-links. I'm already eager to start appearing on search engines and receiving hits from them. I will then need to learn more about page ranking.

good luck mate, you doing good, I started same thing recently! Take your time, read forums around, and try this and that, Quality before Quantity :couch2: , and yes - success doesn't apply over night!! in some cases it takes over efforts ,-)

Will be following this journey since it mirrors my own.

I've just got hosting and already had a domain. Right now trying to figure out how to best set up my wordpress site.

Then hopefully set off the long road to ranking and traffic.

Hit me up OP, will be happy to share ideas/insights

Hey man, keep going! I am sure you will be successful in no time. Soon, you can withdraw the title of 'noob' from yourself. :)

I haven't had much of a chance to do any work over the last couple of days. The site has now been indexed on Google, though only two of its pages so far. Plus I can only find it if I type the actual URL into Google. Anyway, it has given me the motivation to start working on back-linking and using social media tomorrow.

Keep up the good work, I will be following closely. Out of curiosity how many exact searches does your keyword get a month?

Day 7 - 28th July

Today I have made some improvements to the website. I realised I didn't even have a newsletter signup option which was pretty stupid. I have also found a neat way to produce a completely unique and relevant article in 2 minutes pretty much every day. Then I spend 10 minutes promoting it on social networks. That is how I am receiving most of my hits at the moment. This is something I will probably have to continue for as long as I run the site (or until I can hire someone).

I received my first hit from a Google search. It came from my main keyword with another word. I checked it and turns out I am on page 2 for that search. However, I still cannot find myself anywhere for my main keyword alone. The day I crack that is the day that traffic rockets. This is why projects require persistence.

Yesterday I ended up with 46UV. I am on 45 so far today so will have a new record by tomorrow. I am therefore roughly 5% towards my target of 1,000UV in a single day. I have just hit 100UV overall while posting this.

My current tasks are still to create a YouTube channel and make some more improvements to the site content.

As this project is all about traffic at the moment I am going to try and post a numerical update each day even if I have nothing specific to report. I know some people can't be bothered reading the waffle and prefer to skim-read stats.

Target Daily UV - 1,000
Yesterday's UV - 46
Today's UV so far - 45
Total UV - 100

Day 9 - 29th July

I finally received my first likes on Facebook. Most of my new traffic seems to have come from there. When I create an article I am posting a link on similar fan pages so I guess they could get marked as spam. I'm trying to also write some normal comments so people click-through to my fan page.

Today I...
- Attempted to submit the site to some free directories.
- Made some improvements to the site.
- Posted and publicized another new article.

Target Daily UV - 1,000
Yesterday's UV - 63
Today's UV so far - 42
