Hi,

I might be late but I just noticed something with one of my competitors today. You can now (since more than 2 monthes :s) add an icon in the search results following those guidelines :

https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/9290858 (not my site / neither affiliate link xD)

This is quite eye catching if you chose the right icon and can clearly improve your CTR ... I'm just testing by now, but I'm quite confident !

I'm just posting as I haven't been reading about that before and that's clearly a good whitehat move to take before it's too late.

neat and simple to do, just add in head
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/path/to/favicon.ico">

At first I saw it on desktop ...
I posted this regarding two things, mostly for WordPress users :
WordPress built in function is NOT adding the "type" of icon so it might not work natively.
Second, if you use a cdn for images and static files, even icons might be served from another domain so it won't work either.

its a good trick.. because all the search queries looks the same .. so if you have some special icon coming up in your title then your search result stands out bit (tiny bit) different than other results...
