A NEW Facebook?

This might seem like a silly thing to ask but I looked around and I'm quite surprised that nobody seems to wonder this. With all the facebook rules, ID verifications, policies that are aimed to nab spammers and hacker yet only inconvenience the rest of us, and other things like this, why hasn't anyone tried to create another facebook (using a different name obviously) but having a similar layout and functionality only without all the rules and ID verifications and other problems.

Facebook is still a huge niche market. There's probably over 1 billion users as it keeps growing into the developing world where 90% of the world's population live and are relatively untapped still.

Now obviously rules and policies are important, but it seems that it's getting way overdone and if you are frustrated, there just isn't any other place to go for those who like the facebook layout. I'm not a twitter guy.....I enjoy chatting, messaging and discussing in groups, pages, and things like that.

I am aware of other site that I have tried to use like zorpia, badoo, and twoo...(orkut in the past until they shut down)....but honestly, none of them are as good as facebook. Those sites are way too cluttered, way too user unfriendly, and I have yet to find another good social media site like Facebook but without all the blockades that is the verification checks.

Most other sites also don't allow you to do much until you pay and become a premium member. Even still, as a premium member, their layouts suck. Facebook is free, so that is something to still be thankful for, but if they continue to head towards this whole crackdown on multiple/fake accounts, then one day I don't see facebook remaining free anymore OR all accounts will requires mandatory government issued IDs.

If some really knowledgeable people got together, made an investment, and created their own version of Facebook but called a different name and made some small difference so as to not get a lawsuit of copyright infringement or something.....I could see that new facebook taking off. Even if you only got 1% of the pie, that would still be 10 million users (estimate).

Same goes with Ebay. Lot of people pissed off that ebay basically screws sellers, charges crazy fees, etc. Why couldn't someone create another ebay, but charge only 2% fees + better protect sellers, etc., and watch everyone make the jump over to the new site?

I know it's not as simple as that. It takes years often to build a reputation, to spread the news, and get the word out there about a new site, BUT with amount of disgruntled facebook users growing each day and ebay users, too, I think there are a lot of people waiting and willing to make a jump over to a new site that is basically the same layout, but only without all the crazy fees or the crazy rules.

I would think that new facebook is twitter. I have noticed that the younger generations don't even have facebook, majority of them either have instagram or twitter.

I like your way of speeking. You are so motivated to innovate ideas...
Anyway, talk still cheap. Action is more and more hard.
Big ideas should be pushed with a big strong smart motivated talented.... team.
But we can remain dreaming!

We all determined that Facebook must be the one and only option...when we closed the door to Google+....another monster!! Maybe if Facebook see that people are jumping into Google+...but wait...what do I see? so many disabled accounts by Google...

Not exactly. There doesn't need to be another Facebook for normal people who aren't into marketing. Facebook is a good enough tool as it is. You can use Twitter & Pinterest as added "fuel". For normal people, instagram, snapchat, and tumblr serve the purpose that facebook doesn't.

An interesting thought, especially since I think the same since years already. There are kinda like alternatives (ello and tsu I would think of first). But when you are talking about ID-verification because of your spamming fakeaccounts, then nothing will change on another social network. If FB (or any other player in the game) would let spammers go full ack, the users would run away in masses.
Restrictions, temporary-bans etc are there to protect the mass of regular users.

Venture Capital:
If you don't want to have the pressure to make more profit every quarter or go public one day, you can only do this without venture capital. Do you have any idea how much development of a new social network from scratch would cost? Except if you have some super skilled programmers on your hand/in the team that work for shares of the startup, you would need lots of money to finance it. Which leads back to VC, something you don't want to stay independent. If you don't have enough spare money, you need to open revenue streams. But if you start a new social network full with ads, no one will sign up.

The only way to solve this is a complete different approach -> turning an already successful/profitable project into a social network.

If I were Google, I wouldn't have started G+ and all the stuff there was before. Instead I would add more social aspects to Youtube. But even if Google would try that route, I'm sure they would find ways to fuck it up.

As much When Facebook came to existence at that time only competition it had was myspace and orkut but with speed it grew that it was impossible take over it thou even companies like google tried with google+ ( i liked google+) ... but 1 billion people have gotten habitual to FB it has become part of their lifestyle converting them to some new social platform will be very difficult

As a user, I prefer that Facebook has strict rules against spam as it has now. As a marketer, I'd say the opposite.
There were (and are) some local alternatives: Vk in Russia, Tuenti in Spain, Orkut in Brazil, etc. With the globalization, the most of their users moved to Facebook. It's international reach is what made it grow so fast

If spam is allowed then there won't be users, you can aswell spam on your own blog.
