OCR SOftware: I do this already. I use Abby FineReader 9.0 Allows you to scan, it then auto selects image and text areas for you. You can then adjust the areas. Simple 1 click export to Word. Very Very Acurate.
You need to be looking at Magazine's from before 1964. As they come under the old copywrite laws. Anything post 1964 retains full copyright for life. Pre-64 had a limited copyright period unless the originator renewed copyright (with 90% probably never did) + originator probably dead so noone will notice or care.
I am lucky my friends Granddad owned a Travel Magazine for 10 years before it collapased. The other week I got every issue off him and I am now scanning. I worked out it takes me about 1 day to scan, format, save & post a 100 page magazine. Well worth it as 1 magazine gives me enough content for 1 blog for 2 months. And I am sure as I get quicker at it, then probably be able to do 2 mag's aday. And probably split it over a few blogs with different travel neiches.
But anyway, it is a great idea for unique content and works well. Just use OLD magazines.... min pre 1985 as most fo the stuff past can probably be found. Beware of highly Neiche Specific magazines, as these have a following and potentially someone could recognise thier work and you could easily get caught.
