A little help for newb with Domain set up

Hi,

Just bought an exact name match domain name from godaddy, and bought 3 months of hosting from godaddy. So now I want to use that domian from godaddy on my wordpress blog. I just read that I would have to pay to register a domain through wordpress.

Is there any way around paying for this? Any other suggestions out there?

If you've already purchased a domain and hosting then you don't need to buy a second domain from anyone, you just need to "link" your domain to your hosting account by editing your domain's nameservers and then waiting up to 48 hours.
 
Godaddy make it pretty complicated for newbies, they try to up-sell a lot, after the 3 months move to dreamhost, bluehost or hostgator, they make things much easier ;)
 
Yeah so Wordpress is saying I have to buy mapping for $13.00 are you sure its free?
 
ok so I installed wordpress onto my godaddy hosting account, but I have no Idea what to do now. Any other help out there? LOL god Im so new.
 
Just go into hosting panel and click manage applications. Install wordpress and you should be good to go. Pm if you meed help. There are also numerous tutorials on yourube and goddays website. If all else fails contact godaddy. Inhave never heard of charging to install wordpress!

Thanks so much guys i fucking love this forum. No so I thought I had to export my blog to my desktop, then upload in my FTP Manager. But I have no idea. FUCK! LOL
 
I think this is what I have to do am I correct, I wound up downloading wordpress... Easy... i was talking about they are charging me from wordpress to do something called mapping.

Here's the directions, can you let me know if i am on the right path to move my existing free wordpress blog to my godaddy hosting, all in lamens terms that I am trying to do is get rid of the domain www.example.com/wordpress.com and use the domain I bought from godaddy.


To export and download WordPress blogs from your current host, you need to back up your existing database and have access to the WordPress files on your existing server.

  1. Identify the database that your WordPress blog uses, and then create a backup of your database as a SQL file. For more information, see the WordPress codex .
  2. Connect to your existing hosting account using File Transfer Protocol (FTP). For more information see What is File Transfer Protocol (FTP)?
  3. Download the wp-content folder to your computer.
If you're using the same domain name for the WordPress blog, you need to update your DNS, which brings your current blog offline. See Setting Nameservers for Your Domain Names for more information.

You could have your domain redirect to the url of your blog? Not a perfect solution though.

If not, install Wordpress on your hosting.

Here's what you need.

- A backup of your SQL database.
- FTP Client (Filezilla)
- Godaddy FTP account details ( find these in your control panel)

Step 1 - Download latest version of wordpress.
Step 2 - Open up your FTP client, log in.
Step 3 - Paste the files in your ftp directory.
Step 4 - Yoururl.com/install.php (or something similar, it's in the readme.txt)
Step 5 - Import your SQL database. Probably a simple one click way to do this in the WP admin.

Should go something like that.
 
Im back! Ok that seriously was a really long night. I will never use godaddy again. They really make things very difficult. Im PM's Mangobuddy and they really helped me out. I was up untill almost 2am working on this, we finally got the wordpress installed on my domain. And still almost there, havent gotten it completely. But my blog is so basic that I think I will just redesign on my hosting through wordpress. Just think that if I login to Godaddy then log into wordpress through godaddy with the same username and password from my original Wordpress site, then It should log me in to my original blog. But for some reason it's not working...

Any how. Problem Fixed HUGE REP POINTS should go to Mangobuddy they have some awesome hosting too, you should Pm them about the incredible prices. VERY VERY knowledgeable and helpfull, actually gave me three months of free hosting through them. THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!!
