    Hi all

Here is something I have tested and it works great sometimes and others not so much....so test it yourself by split testing.

Most people in IM tend to do what others (not just the self proclaimed guru's) tell them and they don't think outside the box enough.

So when pop up's are used it's usually damage limitation to hopefully get a cut price deal with the visitor or to capture their name.

We also know that to capture and keep attention is difficult these days and that is the job of the headline.

So sometimes what I do is I use a pop-up to get the readers attention and not just to try and get them to buy at a discounted price or to sign up for my autoresponder.

I split test using the popup to either sign up as per usual or to reinforce the headline. I have used things like :"this is so important that I want to remind you to take 10 minutes and read all the way to the bottom of this letter" or "I know i've akready told you this but, XXXXX(restate the headine) and this is in case you missed it" or "If I was you, I'd read all the way to the bottom of this page cause there are some things I guarantee you won't want to miss out on" or..... I'm sure you get the picture

Remember that pop ups can be used for so much more than what they are currently being used for.

Are you using them for just one thing in one way?

The first thing I learned years ago about IM was that you need to be really clear about what your most wanted response from the reader of your page is and use as many tactics as possible to achieve it.

So if it;s a sign up you want go for that with all your arsenal (including popups), if it's to get a sale then go for that.

One of the main reasons for failure is that we try to achieve too many things on a web page and it is confussing for the visitor.

Just a few thoughts for you to mull over THEN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

    Sorry for shouting mods.

    All the best

    os....

What i have found about pop ups is that the visitors dont like em, I myself try to runas far as I can from a page that allows popups, also almost 90% of the users have pop up blockers nowadays

good points madeyou can get a great pop up creator here in this forum that works the vast majority of the timethe rule is to test against your most wanted response and see what works besti myself don't really like them but they do get my attention, and obviously what I like doesn't matter if they get resultsos...

I don't like pop ups either. Instead I use pop unders.

    They are less intrusive.

I agree that people don't like the popups that jump in their face. However, layers or pop overs that are well designed and not too 'in the face' are known to increase conversions.

Using those to put into action what oscarslater suggested would be a good idea.

    Nice post oscarslater.

just to let you know some results I got

I sent out a mail on friday to my list and I split tested it

i was looking for testimonials and I was giving a massive reduction in a membership site I have

I was limiting the number of new clients to 30 at $27 a time

I got all 30 taken in less than 5 minutes and when I looked at the stats the page with the pop up appearing after 30 seconds got exactly double (20) of the sign ups

so in that case it worked

    got to keep testing

    os....
