1. Say I have a website that is 1 year old and I create a subdomain, will that subdomain bypass googles 30 day ranking limit (or whatever its called lol) or will google still see it as a new domain?

2. If a subdomain gets penalized will that effect the root domain and other subdomains?

This is a good question, I would suspect it would have some benefit, but I'd like to hear some answers.

I think it would have more to do with the strength of the domain, not necessarily the age.
Think of the subdomain like a parasite page, only as strong as the root domain.

There was a lot of talk of this ranking delay last year (including by me), but I'm not entirely convinced it exists.

In any case - a subdomain of an authoritative domain will rank faster than a clean brand new domain.

I bought a domain last month, it's ranked now and I'm sure it has been for a few weeks. So I'm not convinced about the 30 day wait.

Also I read on MOZ and on another Blog that a subdomain gets treated more like a new domain. I.e mysite.com is a subdomain of .com.

I also have a few subdomain questions. I don't mean to steal OPs topic, so if you'd prefer send me a PM. If you have a spammy subdomain can it effect the ranking of the main domain even if they're unrelated?

It almost exclusively depends on the authority of the main domain.

I can assure you that if for any reason subdomain gets penalized it will not affect your mail domain.
