Is it worth it and is it possible to target specific Google datacenters?

Has anyone ever tested submitting sites to directories with the description in English, and the anchor text in a foreign language, for a website that is in a foreign language?

Has anyone ever tested the effects having a website that is in English trading links with a site that is in a foreign language?

    Thanks for any replies

Google works the same regardless of where in the world you are. If you target Euro keywords, you'll get euro traffic. Of course site relevancy is important. A dutch site will get more dutch traffic simply due to the content and text.

Its not possible. In the way you use all DCs. Google then decided which individual to feed the data from which DC etc.

I used to run a lot of directories for many years (And I still have a few left) and I would delete these kind of listings. I think any quality directory would not accept this.

It will work but not as well as it would with a related website in the same language that has the keywords you are targeting in its text.

Interesting idea. Make sense why it wouldn't work. I know that I've gotten black hat links from foreign sites before, never thought to try with white hat sites. Doesn't sound like its worth it.

If I had to make an educated guess, I'd say that the language difference would dampen the positive effect that trading those links would have, unless the foreign language (or English) site was an authority site.

    Thanks for the replies.

    So, I take it that:
it is not possible to target specific Google data centers
directory submissions with the anchor text in a foreign language and the description in English would not hurt your site but not help as much as it would if the anchor text was also in English(or whatever language your description and the directory is in)
trading links with a foreign site might be okay but not worth the time it would take to do so

Okay, it looks as though search engines are language relative rather than geographically relative. However, when I do an English keyword search on Yahoo.com and the same one on Yahoo.jp, I get different results.

Would that be just because the information is probably coming from a different datacenter?

    Thanks
