A drop in backlinks?

ive also lost 1000's of backlinks on the sites I use scrapebox on. What I've noticed is that when I had checked alot of those backlinks before they dropped off I couldn't find my site/url (or my anchor text) on most of the ones I checked - i was curious and wanted to check my backlinks. The ones I could find are still in YSE and funnily enough the ones I couldn't find. are gone.

Like someone said, maybe yahoo has cleaned up their old backlinks data/cache. Sorta glad to know I wasn't the only one who's had this problem. The other sites I don't use scrapebox dont seem to have been affected, but then my url was always present on the backlinks pages.

I guess it was an across the board thing. I just check another site that dropped from 5k to about 4k. It looks like about a 20% loss for mine but I don't have hundreds of thousands like some of you guys...yet!

Same here...lost about 1500 of my back links on one site...

One of my sites has dropped from approximately 20,000 links to 7,000 over the past week.

Happened to me this morning, first thing I do is check here.

Is Big G wanting to monopolise backlinks service? Are they bringing their own out and only theirs has an affect on G SERPs, LOL? Wouldn't surprise me.

I lost about half the backlinks on site explorer but google hasn't changed.

I've lost a lot of the backlinks that would be listed on siteexplorer but I could never locate link.

Just to add, I checked my backlinks in site explorer after reading this post. Went from almost 3k to just under 800 backlinks.

Ruh roh?

EDIT: But the keyword I've been trying to rank for, I just searched and I'm page 1, rank 8. My first Google page 1. No harm, no foul, I reckon.

EDIT 2: Wow - just searched a keyword I haven't even started trying to rank high for yet because it's searched for way more/month and it's at position 4 in Google. What in the hell is going on?

I think with scrapebox is pretty normal. Many sites/blogs have their "recent comments" box. So it happens that they pick up your comment on that box (which usually is your name/keyword + link to your site) and they show it sidewide for a while. So if the site has 200 pages you will get 1-2hundreds backlinks for a while instead of 1. As soon as other comments replace yours and the site is spidered again you will lose them and of course you will not find your links. So probably yahoo is getting faster in "cleaning" those links.

Ive lost a bunch of links too. I wonder if it could have something to do with the yahoo/bing merger.

I lost about 50% of my backlinks too on all my sites

I lost links on hundreds of sites of all types, but my SERP's on several went up maybe they just changed the way they index particular links or it may come back. This happened to me in January and everything came back higher a week later... UPDATE?

Happened across the board for me, scared the piss out of me so I ran right over here to check what others think. I lost basically 75% of my links across the board using Market Samurai to check but serps look good and in the same places. Hope they dont slide cause I need to get paid. Thanks all and lets keep this thread updated maybe...

i was about to get depressed when i have noticed my backlinks dropped to badly till my friend show me this thread.

Not a bad thing, like I said, I grew in SERPs. If you're looking to succeed, normality's WILL ******** you, 100% of the time in the long run. That's what I've learned anyways, it's all about finding that whack ass vibe.

yeah, mine also...went from 5,800 to about 2,300 backlinks in yahoo explorer, google did not change anything in my webmaster account, still showing up about 8,990 backlinks there

I think yahoo performed some sort of update because although I lost a ton of backlinks my keywords with yahoo serps have seem to gone up a bit.
