First off, thanx to all of the BHW members for there insights and inspirations on CPA, affiliate marketing etc.
(Note: if I am violating any written or un-written rules with this post or if its in the wrong section please let me know)
This is a thread that will chronicle my journey to make a buck. Also so that other noobs can avoid some of the mistakes ive made, and if a CPA Grand Master decides to coach a little, it would be greatly appreciated.
With that said here we go:
Week 1:
I already have a background in web programing and design, so im sure that gives me a slight edge. I started with clickbank, adfly and Twitter. I created Twitter accounts and used TwitterFeed to auto Tweet RSS feeds on given subjects. Example: twitter (at) LoLTheory
I used adfly to shorten the links in the RSS feed so that when someone would click the link I would generate income (lol if you can call .001 cents income). At first I thought "Hey all I have to do is have 100 Twitter accounts auto tweeting 150+ relevant stuff all day........ yeah easier in thought than in practice (although if I am being short sighted here please let me know). I later added links to appropriate Clickbank affiliates to the end of the Tweets thinking "well if Im putting out 1000+ Tweets a day, maybe ill get some conversion" so far.... not so much. But this idea is still pretty fresh. with only 4 Twitter accounts auto tweeting I have been able to get 1400 people to click and view the ads, but with no conversion.
Week 2 Day 1 & 2:
After spending allot of time reading the forums and others advice I looked into CPA. I printed frenchboy's post on how to apply to CPA companys and applied it as best I could. (I tried to link it here but my accounts too new, see the CPA main page)
His post is from 2008 so some things have changed, one thing is that some of the bigger CPA affiliates will ask if you use twitter to advertise even though they don't like Twitter traffic. I asked one account manager from Epic Direct why, she said it doesn't convert well ( no really! I am starting to feel the same!)
I applied to:
CPA lead- Accepted
CPAJuice - Accepted
YeahCPA - Accepted
Epic Direct - Rejected
Neverblue - Rejected
BeeFly - Still waiting
Dandingo - Still waiting
Grevenue - Still waiting
To apply to these sites I did a quick Wordpress site and made sure to create an email for this site to apply with (looks a little more professional). I took frenchboys advice to heart: "If you get denied disregard it. Drink a red bull or whatever makes you feel focused. Momentum is key."
Amen brother!
I expounded on my original idea of using twitter by creating another site and making it the middle man between the RSS feeds original content and my Twitter posts.
Basically it works like this: Original RSS Feed --> auto blogged to my site -->create new RSS feed off this content with my sites urls --> use this feed to auto tweet to a given twitter account that now has links to my site instead of to the original.
I have adverts on this site and since I was accepted into CPA Leads I'm probably going to use there Survey widget to see if I can get some visitors to complete some surveys to view the content and maybe make a little $$.
Welp thats it so far. I will continue to update this post, and If any of the ideas Ive shared here sound good to you, take em. If you have more success or tweaks let me know here so that all noobs can learn and get motivated.
I would have liked to link to the sites that I had made but forum rules are restricting me from doing it sry, after Ive been a member longer or can afford the VIP membership I will add them in.
UPDATE
Week 2 Day 3 (4am)
Well this is the second night in a row that I have worked till 4am, and the funny thing is that I am not tired. Its like im on a high of sorts (although the energy shot, and starbucks helps
).
I still have not heard from the other CPA affiliates that I have applied to.
I have found what I hope to be a good stride though. I have created a third Wordpress site. This one is geared as a 5 page semi authority site, that basically says "here is a problem, and this is the solution", ads are placed appropriately, I hope. I would like to be a little more specific on what kind of product it is and how im marketing it, but I would like to see how this goes before I start spouting any real advice. ( im trying to help people avoid my mistakes not join in with me)
Later today after I get some sleep I'm going to see if I can get an adwords account to do some PPC on my keywords. I had an adsence account 2 years ago for a gaming web forum, but it was banned, I tried to apeal then but I didnt get anywhere and didnt have nearly the same motivation I have now so I let it go. Now Im curious if I may need to get another account and how that whole proccess will work out. If anyone can suggest somthing please do, either way it will be the focus of today.
As far as my other campaigns, no luck. Clickbank shows 1800+ clicks but still no conversion. I figure there has to be one person that will buy in, but we will see.
Well thats it for now, thanks for looking. Good night..... well Good morning really, but whatever.
