i saw a post here that the big G updated websites pageranks now. and that got me wondering.

    1. what does it take to get from 0 to 1., 1 to 2 etc. is there a formula they use?. is it based on changes made, content. keywords. or everything? (does anyone REALLY know?)
i got a serious webshop which is my main occupation, and generates a full income (i run it with my brother), and that site is constantly changing. new products, new prices, loads of FB likes etc. but we have been on PR2 for 2 years now.

    2. i got an article directory going a few weeks ago, decent traffic already, but it didnt rank up (atleast not at the time i wrote this). will an article directory rank up at all, since most of the articles is spun? (i know there are article directories out there with PR3-4-5-6 etc, but they are far and few between)

i decided not to use google to ask this, as i dont wanna get hit with random answers from people on the intergalactic interwebz, i wanna ask the experts (this is where you come in :) )

    cheers!

Well, the general consensus for PR is that the more High PR inbound links to your site, the higher PR your site gets. Dunno if that still holds true though.

it would be weird if that was one of their main criterias, as honest webshops usually dont link to other sides at all, our website is truly professional and very easy to use, and updated at least a few times a week. hard to understand why its been PR2 for 2 years now.

It's sorta like a clique... If the "popular kids" are talking about you, then you must be popular as well. If you're really interested in this, you could have whoever is in charge of PR to contact some of the big folks like CNET or TechRepublic to do an article on your site and what it is you offer, if it's THAT worthwhile. You could also ask some of these higher PR sites for Link Exchange, that always helps.

There is a formula, its called eigenvalue equation. You collect information about all the backlinks between all the sites in the world and store it in a huge matrix P.

Then you solve the equation: P * v = a * v for the largest possible a. Now v (a vector) contains the pageranks of all the webpages in the world. Next Google normalizes that vector to be between 0 and 10.

im feeling like this is a bad way of doing it. that means that a real webshop like mine, which is updated alot and 100% legal in all ways, fall short of other sites that use linking services etc to gain populatity, shouldnt it be based on professionalism?, or is that to hard to calculate ?
would think that google wanted good content websites showing up under their logo when people searched, instead of the sites that use dodgy methods to outrank us.

I believe PR is a tiniest part of the algorithm now (remember its been around over 10 years now which is a lifetime in terms of technology). I believe is Social Interaction and would say concentrate on building up social pages/accounts and interactions where other people choose to like/share your links etc.

    Questions to answers:
    1. Basically it takes more links, even better if sites with higher PR link to you.

    2. They will rank, however it depends how unique the content is, and how many links it gets back to it.

Iv had one site that is a PR0 since 2008. Work that out but its pages rank on page 1 and position #2.
Google has never shown it love. It was PR2 once, then it dropped to PR0 and stayed there since.

bottom line, you dont need PR to rank, so dont worry about it.
