What are the tips for a website that is over 8 years old, with technical content, but has been neglected for long periods and has relatively few backlinks? What are the backlink strategies that can strengthen it regardless of cost?

Or, to improve the website in general. The website is WordPress-based. Thank you.

Use the actual moz site to get the correct spam score. Whatever site you are using will give you 1% score because your are not getting it from moz api and just putting 1%. If it's like 20% 30% try to fix that first. How much traffic is your site getting? You linkbuiilding statetgy should be based on that.

That looks like the Moz site no?

Forget google for now. Try other sources for traffic like facebook or pinterest. Start replying to comments on x or facebook in your niche, share your links, grow a community etc.

Depending on google hasn't done anyone any good in the recent updates.

I think you neglected to mention one important factor.

The blog has technical content, but is it evergreen?

If the technical content your website has is outdated, I'm sorry, but that blog is useless.

You have to spend time, effort, and money updating that content to maybe attract the right kind of attention from the rest of the internet.

Maybe the reason why it doesn't get much backlinks is because the content is outdated.

You have a few options here.

You can try to sell it to somebody who's dumb enough to buy it because they didn't do their due diligence.

I seriously would advise against this because it's unethical.

The second option is to slowly bring the content up to speed.

Not only should it be up to date, but it must beat your competitors.

This is the part many online publishers ignore.

In fact, they refuse to acknowledge it.

But this is the secret to the game.

If you create content with just enough quality to be somewhat of a contender for search rankings, you will continue to struggle because that's not good enough.

You have to look at the top results and use optimization tools like Surfer SEO to reverse engineer their keywords.

Here's the most important part, deliver solid value.

What are they talking about that you're not talking about?

Focus on those.

What are they not talking about that you should be talking about?

Emphasize these.

If you come up with content that is head and shoulders superior to what's out there, you will win.

It just takes patience, effort, and attention to detail but it can be done.

I know this costs money because it has to be done manually.

You can't use AI to do this.

So do it in small waves.

Do it in batches.

But eventually you will attract links especially, if you do the proper link outreach.
