97% uptime is very bad?

Usually it's 99%. But let's be honest, it's probably just marketing. Reality is lower. Especially with bug well known brands, their hosting...

Is that your experience? If that's actual experience it's pretty good. Could be better but not that bad.

My maths may be out here but.... It's the equivalent to your site being down 21 hours a month, pretty much a day. I'd say that's fair shitty. Had far worse hosts from here, but that's another story.

Depend how much you are paying for your hosting.
For example, if you are paying 1$/mo then 97% is perfect.

"Usually it's 99%. But let's be honest, it's probably just marketing."

Well, pardon me, but I do not agree with you here. We have 100% uptime for Q4 2017 Q1 Q2 Q3 of 2018 and yes it's possible when as provider you reinvest hug % of your profit for new hardware etc.

Sad but true.. most of the well known providers are NOT reinvesting back.. (something that can be confirmed from the used hardware which most likely will be older than the average).

Again, OP, if your web hosting is cheap then 97% is perfect!

Actually, having a 99.9% uptime would be ideal as that would be equivalent to a couple of hours downtime per year.
A 1% downtime would translate to 3.65 days per year downtime.
Thus, a 3% downtime would be 10 days downtime per year.
Although it is not ideal, and it would be beneficial to have just 0.01% downtime, most of these are just marketing gimmick, and the servers do go up and down throughout the entire year - but the provider must be able to address the issue respectively.

It means your website will be down on average 43 minutes every day. That's bad.

97% uptime is not good. You should change your provider by the way how much you pay for your service per year?
