Referring to point #3 I guess site size plays a big big role here. I'd like to suggest everyone who's thinking about doing this to keep in mind that rich helps right poor helps poor. What that means is make list mentioning sites that are as big/small as your own site. Don't mentions sites that are already big as fuck, they will never backlink to your small site.
