Well it can be nice to have, I think my slave drive is getting old and maybe ready to fail and I don't wanna lose the 60 or so gigs on it, so I bought one.. but I figured some ppl here might find it useful

Man I'd hate for that hard drive to crash... Mine crashed last year after only 3 years. Had to RMA it for a new one. Needless to say, I didn't recover 1 thing off of it =(

I also lost a shit load about a year ago, i used to double backup incase one of the backups went down. I bought a new laptop and decided to sync the 2 external drives and copy old laptop to new.

Anyway, long and short of it is, 250GB went bye-bye.

I now have a mirrored raid nas and another external drive. I want another though, as i was pretty much sick when i lost my last.
 
500GB for 86 isn't bad. if you go to ur local bestbuy (depending on the promo), you can grab one for 100 bux. hence, a refund receipt and u get right away. :D

I am so sorry for the data loss you had due to the HDD crash.

That's why I prefer using remote storage on the Internet, and I paid the price of a hard drive for 14 months usage of a storage space of 500GB along with monthly 5TB (5000GB) data transfer.

Now I don't have to pay more for keeping that account grace to the referral system of the host, which grants 2 months hosting credit for each new referred friend. (And friends get 25GB extra space for enrolling to the service using my coupon code).

I prefer keeping the main bulk of data in the web folders and all my private settings, bookmarks, credentials and e-mail agent on a portable flash drive.

In this way I can worry much less about data loss and I don't need to carry a laptop or heavy portable drives with me.

That's a very good price for a portable drive. It's like if you would buy directly from wholesaler or regional distributor.

Haha, no shit. You almost need like 3 drives these days. A backup of the backup of the backup.

If it crashes that is like a year of downloading torrents down the drain. Yes that would suck.

I've learned also that DVD backups are safe if you use at least 2 backups on different brand of discs, plus a copy for tear and wear, and you shall keep the copies in different safe places. I had a friend who owns two firms for graphical design and once he had to throw out a full collection of DVD backups that mysteriously became unreadable after only 3 years. Magnetic fields? Paranormal phenomena? Who knows.

Anyway, during 10 years I had a half dozen of hard disks crashed.

Now I backup as much as possible on the Internet based clustered server AND on DVDs. I use hard disks virtually as a 'temporary workspace'.

I can recommend, always backup your valuable data.

I am a newbie here . . . but not a newbie to the Internet world.

I use external hard drives to stop filling my laptop / notebook computer with all kinds of stuff.

Most laptop / notebook computers just have 40gb to 80gb of hard drive memory . . . and that can be quickly eaten up with the software programs of today.

I hardly ever uninstall a program once it is on my computer.

Why is it us guys in the uk don't get bargains like these, rep given for a good find, i'll have to search the ebay uk to see if any thing like that is available.

I guess we'll never have the benefits available to those in the US of A. They don't pay as much tax: VAT or Sales Tax, call it what you will.

Computers, Cameras and most of that kind of stuff is cheaper in United States.

But that does not stop you picking up bargains, and one offs. You need to be on the mailing lists of: Staples, PC World, Misco and the likes.

But you need to stay with it . . . don't just go out the once or online and expect to find bargains "just like that."

And finally stay tuned to eBay.co.uk - You know it makes sense.

Externals are great because you only turn them on when needed. Recently my 320GB died and I will only use externals from now on for data storage
