500gb bandwidth video hosting

hi all

after some advice as still building my site.

for video hosting for education videos. prob about 40 in total 30mins each seem to compress to about 70mb

is my maths correct so let's say 100 students access 1 video at 70mb would 7gig bandwidth per student

7gig x 40 vids = 280gb

so if students watched all 40 vids once it would use 280gb bandwidth.

in reality is 500gb quite a lot?

Are you sure that 30 mins video will be only 70mb?

Plus students tend to use info videos to go back to over and over , because they don't remember how to do something after a while. So they use it like a reference book not a video.

70mb was at 480p compressed.

maybe my calls are out and a good point about going over the videos.

maybe 500gb is not actually that much as if 1080p would be circa 450mb. I think ?

I didn't really want them available in public domain for anyone to access.

You can always use BunnyCDN. Heard only good things about them and traffic starts at $5/tb. Hosting is $10/tb. Billed in GB increments.

Vimeo has an option to only allow the video to be embedded from certain sites but it's not free. Other providers like AWS S3 maybe cheaper depending on how much content/views you will be getting.

Upload them on an external source : openload for example and embed them while keeping them private (i think openload gives this option)

if I have a 1TB storage google drive account could I actually just use that to host my course videos and embed them? or is that not a good idea?

It all depends on the video bitrate, the less it is, the less bandwidth you need
if your videos do not violate anyone’s rights, you can use google drive, but there is a limit of 750GB of data sent per day
example: if your video is 70mb in size, then it can be watched no more than 10,000 times

Cloudflare has a great video delivery service. I wouldn't recommend hosting videos directly from a single web server. Customers just expect better performance these days.
