I just wanted to find out how legit is this with a 500 word article with 6 anchor text links (different texts and some same texts) pointing directly to all the same site...

Is this really overdoing it?

It's going on my site. People have been saying to limited the amount of anchor text links with all these Google updates to avoid getting penalized, but is it really that bad?

I mean, does it matter if this was a 2000 words article instead?

Whatever way you look at it regardless of the number of words, the text links are pointing back to your site...

I would not be up for that many, I would add 3 at the most, all pointing to different pages like home page - inner page 1 - inner page 2...

That is my take, but not the way I would be developing which would be approx 300 word articles every day all with only one back link...

But hey there are so many ways to skin a cat! What I mean many different ways may have the same and/or better results

I've thought about the same thing. I just started up 2 sites and have been thinking about getting back in to article marketing. I would probably go with 2 or 3 anchor text links for a 500 word article - 4 at the max, just to make sure that the article doesn't come across as an ad or spam. But I'm not sure about whether or not it would be a bad thing if you went with 6 links. Steelballs' idea about linking to different pages within your site is a great idea as well, especially if you plan to use that many text links.

Google is smarter than you think, interlinking won't get you in trouble unless it looks like you're trying too hard to manipulate ranks. As long as it looks natural to the reader, you should be fine.

I'm under the impression that Google is not really all that smart and people just over think this stuff. If your just trying to get link juice then the content is just filler to go around the link. I take content from other sites and use it in web 2.0s pointing back to my site. Seems to rank fine imho.

i don't see any use of pointing so many links to home page, just point one link to home page and 1 to inner page, that's it.

This is what I have learned thus far...

If the article is for direct traffic then one link at the beginning and one at the end.

If the article is for SEO to rank then 2-3 links, one to home site and the rest to other authority sites in your niche.

Correct me if I'm wrong please.

I agree here too. 6 is overdoing it and prob will not do much good. 2 is enough to different urls.

People most likely click on a text link that is placed after the firt paragraph. That's where you want to set your link because it is most likely going to be clicked and it's the best place for seo. All other links are useless imho.
