Look at your .htaccess files and or your apache settings... just a guess.

Not long ago when twitter got hacked my twitter plugin of wordpress went crazy trying to connect site. The plugin didn't know what to do on time out request and subsequently overloaded my server and gave error 500.... took me few hours to find out. Hope it rings your bell.

Definitely check your .htaccess and plugins. It's almost always the .htaccess file.

its a 500 server error not a client side error, could be your hosting, maybe you should check with them. I highly doubt its your .htaccess, you don't get a 500 if you are blocked or IP related

A 500 error is a server error and can happen on any grade of server. As pointed out earlier in this thread it's almost always related to your .htaccess file(s), but can also come from a variety of other reasons.

If you are running apache there should be an 'error.log' file with the specifics.

a '500 Error' could be a permission issue.
