We have a contractor offering us a do-follow link on the IBM website for $50

    DA = 98

PA (of home page) = 96

    Moz Rank = 7.45

Would be a blog article on an inner page

    Worth it?

Agree with this! Make sure that the link is on the actual root domain and not a sub-domain like financials.marketplace.ibm.com.

Also you should check and confirm if the link will be do-follow so you can capture some of that quality link juice!

    Best regards and good luck!

That's mostly what I'm wondering. More concerned that it would be some obscure/worthless subdomain or something like the Huffington Post contributor scam.

I'll have to check with the contractor. That's pretty much my main concern.

My memory may be wrong but I seem to remember years and years and years ago there were forum profile links or something similar on IBM where people put there site in the profiles. I wouldn't pay for that if tha'ts what it is.

I see that obviously your main concern is getting it on the root domain, which is accurate, however you need to consider getting proof of the contractors ability. Once you voice that concern, he will attempt to sell you on it anyway.

Where did you find him and how did you come into contact with him?

    This is 100% correct.

I have a profile link for one of my sites in the gaming/tech niche from IBM and the URL looks similar to this:

    https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/...ml/profileView.do?key=randomlettersandnumbers

This link was only made about a month ago so you can do it.

If this is the type of link they are offering you then don't bother because:

1 - You can make it yourself

2 - You have to get it indexed somehow

Be wary of people offering you links on very high authority websites because you can get these types of links on Amazon, TED, Apple, Microsoft, and similar websites.

The first question you need to ask is what is your niche? For example, if you are selling women's panties then you would be wasting your time getting a link from IBM.... The more related your website / link intentions is to the website you want to get the link from, the more valuable the link. You need to look beyond the link metrics and look at the actual people that are on the website. Google also isn't ignorant, they know if your website is related....

Some authoritative sites indeed offer do-follow link sponsorship. For, example, myPhpAdmin and Apache. But the rates as you may guess far exceed $50.

That's why what described above sounds suspicious.

At a glance $50 is more than a steal. Most things in life though if it looks to good to be true, research with serious caution, then decide. It appears from the above posts that your $50 could be saved.
