Got a 45% bounce rate on a simple 1 page site. What does this mean and is this good/bad? Never really checked a stat like this

Sounds pretty normal to me,I have around 51 percent on my page. Are you using Google traffic or social media?

Strictly Google for this site.

I read an article once, and it had different average bounce rates for different types of sites.

Mind linking me to the article or posting the figures here?

50% is average. I have 23% on my best site. The others are between mid 40's and high 50's.

50 is actually pretty good considering it's a one page site and they can't click to any other links to extend their time on site

Perhaps counterintuitively, 50% is the average, so you're fine.

If your entire site has exactly one page your bounce rate should be very close to 100% ( any drop from 100% would mean your visitors refresh the page).

bounce rate
noun

  • the percentage of visitors to a particular website who navigate away from the site after viewing only one page.

Yeah with this site a content locker pops up.

This is a few months old, and may be of no use to you but its a decent read.

Bounce rate represent the Quality Traffic -- Less than 25% bounce rate would very good, I guess. Mine site has less than 10% though.

It's very normal. My personal website bounce rate 48% only. It's totally good. No worries.

According to me 15-20% is best according to the SEO rules.
So, you've to careful...
