40k UV but not monetising

I have a website in the electronic dance music niche, that I started out 3 years ago for fun. It's slowly grown into 40000 UV per month but i'm having difficulties monetizing. I think this has to do with the methods I've been using and my audience. My audience are usually net-savvy users, who don't click on ads and pirate their music.

I've tried:
Adsense - without in your face placement, this only achieves $30/month
Affiliates - DJing, equipment type products through clickbank, commission junction, amazon. After a month of testing each, zero sales. Also tried MP3 affiliates but my audience just pirates everything

What other services should I be looking at?
Help a noob out!

Maybe you can lock up some of your songs behind a content locker!

From what I understand, and please correct me if i'm wrong, content locking is useful when you're the main provider of content correct? something that people can't get elsewhere? The content provided on my blog can easily be found elsewhere for free, e.g. lyrics to a song, information about a dance party.

Thanks for the reply. I'll look into seeing what I can provide for a premium section, but currently there wouldn't be much.

Most of the traffic I get is from ranking first for people searching for lyrics to a song, that I write up.

You can also create Facebook and Twitter, you can use them later to get money, ( ex. fiverr gig )
 
Build a new site that has similar content but is aimed towards being a money site from day one. Do a bit of seo and then do a 301 redirect from your current site to boost PR fast.
 
Use CPM ads on it, also overlay ads - popunders etc - as visitors will keep coming no matter how many or how less ads there are on your website - or you can also sell the popunder traffic directly to buyers here on bhw

But after reading again I think it is only 40k UV per month , well then you need to add some text content based posts on your website and put adsense ads there

Gain more traffic at least 10k UV per day then you will see income

I wouldn't use a content locker since your site is still growing. You will lose that traffic especially u mentioned that they are net savvy (smart users are aware of content lockers). Maybe put some ad blocks on the top right corner and mid right corner where sponsors can put their ads (buysellads). And for the extra monetization, use cpm networks such as trafficrevenue, popads, clicksor, iframe.us . You can also apply for cpa networks and promote email submit offers (first page submit offer). Try promoting free products offers. Best of luck to you.
 
If content locking doesn't work well, just change your niche, because mostly you got junk traffic
