404 Error

This usually happens when there is an alteration made in the rewrite rules or if your .htaccess file got deleted. You can fix it by two ways,
1. Fix your permalinks setting
You can find it on settings--> permalinks
2. Modify your .htaccess file by logging in to your server using FTP
you can find the .htaccess file in the same location where folders like wp-content and wp-includes are located.

are thousands of pages that I lost, I was wondering if there is any plugin that can transform 404 errors on pages.

Google for 404 plugins for wordpress. Example: http://wordpress.org/plugins/404-to-start/
It redirects all 404 not found to specified page.
Or a simple setting in your .htaccess to redirect all 404's to a specified page,
or if you have cpanel, you can create custom 404's. All 404's will lead to this custom page.

There are plenty of word press plugins around the web to make it real. Some of the 404 word press plugins can repair the 404 error. But, some of the plugin's no more available.
