Every 4 years the BTC mining rewards are cut in half. This means that the energy consumption is paid by less BTC and the miners will not sell the coins for less than the cost of electricity. We're still in a period when all other cryptocurrencies increase and decrease in price based on how the big boy moves. This generates the 4 year market cycle you probably heard of.
