You mine BTC with ASICS. And most altcoins with GPU.

You won't be able to mine ETH once they update (and they said it'll be later this year) and all that mining power will flood into altcoins and pools so the prices there will drop. You'll still be able to mine but you can't judge profit based on numbers today.

Mining is going to see some drastic changes in the not too far future. If the market itself stays flat, miners are going to make less simply because there'll be more supply when the GPU miners are forced to move away from ETH.

Basically, the thread answer is "nobody knows".

Trying to judge it of the state of the market now is like going to the casino and putting it all on red.

As a newbie you either learn a lot or use nicehash.

Don't just jump in as others have said if proof of stake gets implemented then eth is no longer minable. Also eth is currently the most profitable to mine with a gpu

If POS does get implemented soon then expect to earn less then half of what your miner would earn now.

I personally would just buy a planetwatch a deeper connect and a helium miner. Cheaper electric hardly any heat or noise. Literally just sits on the side and you forget its even there.

Judging by the data on these two sources - asicminervalue.com and https://whattomine.com/miners, I don't think a rig worth $3k can mine $5 per day.
